One Good Thing: A Holiday Bake Sale Recap

Welcome to One Good Thing, a weekly(ish) series where I write about one really good thing that I think you should know about.

What’s the One Good Thing? Well, this week, it’s… more than one thing. I lied! The title is a lie! Now that we’ve covered that, this week we’re talking about the Holiday Bake Sale that I co-hosted earlier this week at Dear Mom. More specifically, we’re talking about all of the incredible baked goods that our five bakers brought.

This isn’t even everything!

What makes it so good? The community, that’s what!

The bakers that (somehow!) agreed to my crazy bake sale idea are what made this so special. We had what I truly consider to be an elite crew, with some of the very best bakers in the city: Ally Benedyk of Love Handle, Youssef Boudarine of J’Adore Pastry, Jordan Justice of JaJustice Bakes, Zoë Taylor of Borage, and Amanda Gibson of Indy Dough.

There were vintage cookie tins filled with some of the best cookies you’ve ever eaten (Matcha candy canes! Luxardo and lemon curd cookies! Super spiced gingerbread!). There were mini yule logs. There were eggnog canelés. There were peppermint ganache brownies. There were vegan old-fashioned donuts. There were rum raisin bundt cakes. There was French onion focaccia! I could go on…

There’s another side to the “community” — Liz from Dear Mom, who opened up her shop to 300+ people who waited in line for more than an hour to get their baked goods. And, of course, all of you who did exactly that — waited in line, bought pastries, and sold all of the bakers out of their desserts.

Where can I get it? Well, the truth is that you’ll never be able to get this exact lineup of cookies and pastries again. But you can keep an eye out on my Instagram for updates on future pop ups (because there will be more — after all, you guys sold us out).
