7 Breakfast Sandwiches to Start Your Day in Indy

Indy is no NYC when it comes to breakfast sandwiches — yet. But when you need your breakfast to be served between two pieces of bread (the ideal breakfast situation, tbh), you’ve got options.

Sure, you can grab a biscuit sandwich at any drive-thru or at pretty much any breakfast joint in town, but some sandwiches rise above the rest. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite before work, making weekend plans, or nursing a hangover, these sandwiches are worth starting your day with.

The Spicy BECCY at Sidedoor Bagel

Leviathan Bakehouse’s breakfast sandwich

The BECCY at Sidedoor Bagel

Fresh bagel? Check. Local bacon? Check. Plenty of cream cheese? Check. The BECCY — which stands for bacon, egg, and cream cheese, yo! — is a top seller at Sidedoor for a reason. Choose your bagel, choose your cream cheese, and enjoy a well-rounded breakfast sandwich. Keep an eye out for the Spicy BECCY special, which adds candied jalapeños and Metal Honey Foods hot honey.

The Brekkie at Tinker Coffee

Brekkie rhymes with BECCY, but that’s not the only reason this sandwich made the list! Tinker Coffee is a one-two punch for your downtown morning routine: Grab an incredible coffee from one of the OGs of Indy coffee AND a biscuit breakfast sandwich. Even better? They have a biscuit loaded with scallions, which is definitely how you should order it. This is a “choose your own adventure” situation: you choose between bacon or sausage, and kimchi mayo or sriracha maple sauce.

The Breakfast Sandwich at Leviathan Bakehouse

Prefer your morning meal to be served on a freshly made croissant? Leviathan has the sandwich for you. Get this: Their hefty AM sandwich packs Smoking Goose ham, smoked bacon, gruyere cheese, shallot baked eggs, and salsa verde between two halves of a croissant. It’s messy, it’s flaky, it’s amazing.

The Eggy at Amberson Coffee

The Eggy at Amberson Coffee

There’s only one breakfast sandwich on the menu at Amberson, and it’s The Eggy. This veggie-forward sandwich features tomato and avocado, but the star of the show is the soft brioche bun it’s served on. Yes, that means you need to eat it shortly after it’s served to avoid a soggy bun, but it’s an incredible way to start a day. Not to mention that Amberson serves some of the very best coffees in the city.

The Smoked Salmon Sandwich at Goose the Market

An incredible butcher shop with an incredible deli is a good sign no matter where you are or what you’re eating — so you might be surprised when I steer you toward Goose the Market’s smoked salmon breakfast sandwich. They’re generous with the smoked salmon pastrami, so come hungry! Soft semolina bread, cream cheese, and pickled onions round out this sandwich that will make you want to visit the coast.

4 Birds Bakery breakfast sandwich

The All Day Breakfast Sandwich at Foundry Provisions

Tired of places that stop serving breakfast at 11? Well, good news — Foundry isn’t one of them. Their aptly-named breakfast sandwich is available any time they’re open. Traditionally served on a bun from local bakery Amelia’s, I like to swap out the bun for a Shapiro’s bagel. The herby eggs, Smoking Goose bacon, and sharp cheddar make this a morning delight!

Foundry Provisions, 236 E 16th St, Indianapolis, IN 46202

The Rotating Breakfast Sandwich at 4 Birds Bakery

Here’s the catch: This one is only available at the Garfield Park Farmer’s Market during the summer. It’s worth waking up early for, I promise! Every other Saturday, 4 Birds pops up at the market with a new creative breakfast sandwich. If you need an example of how amazing these sandwiches can get, one past combination featured a French onion biscuit, crispy braised beef, gruyere cheese, gravy, and an egg on top.
