The Best Smashburgers to Smash in Indianapolis

What’s gorgeous, delicious and perfect in every way?

That’s right: a smash burger.

The smash burger is the undeniable winner every single time when we’re looking at a burger menu. It’s crispy, it’s flavorful, it’s topped off with delicious toppings and delivered on a bun. Thankfully, Indy is no stranger to the smash burger.

Over the years, smash burgers have been slowly but surely popping up across the city for us burger connoisseurs to enjoy. Here are five of the top smash burgers in Indianapolis.

(Think we missed one? DM us on Instagram to tell us what we should add to the list.)

Turchetti’s Delicatessen

If there’s a place where you can trust you’ll have a good burger, it’s definitely at Turchetti’s. They’re a butcher shop, for crying out loud!

This smash burger patty is a blend of beef and bacon, topped with American cheese, lettuce, mayo, tomato, pickle and delicious special sauce. Their burger quality is on another level. (Pro tip: Ask for extra special sauce with your side of beef tallow-fried fries. Their fries rival the burger in how good they are — no sad fries here.)

If you’re looking for some extra beef, try the Extra Beefy Burger, which doubles up the classic smash with an extra patty and toppings like mushrooms and jalapeños.

1110 Prospect Street, Indianapolis, IN 46203

Daredevil Hall

If you’re up on Indy’s north side, you’ve got to stop by Daredevil for a local brew and—of course—a smash burger. Pick from several of their smash burger options and opt for a single patty or double. While you can never go wrong with the classic Hall Smash Burger, the Juicy Brewcy is a personal favorite.

Workingman’s Friend

It was named Indy’s Best Burger in 2022 and has been featured in Food & Wine and on Yelp as Indiana’s best burger. We literally could not create this list without including them. We’re talking about the Workingman’s Friend cheeseburger. The west-side dive is dishing out delicious, paper thin, crispy smash burgers, just the way a smash should be.

Did I mention that it’s under $10? Grab yourself this classic with all the toppings and a schooner of beer to wash it down. Don’t forget to have cash on hand — they’re cash only! (But if you forget, there’s a Chase a few blocks away.)

234 N Belmont Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46222

Natural State Provisions

We’ve got two words for you: Natty Lite. Brought to you by the minds behind King Dough, Natural State Provisions has an awesome southern-inspired menu including their rendition of the classic smashburger. You might as well order some pimento cheese while you’re there. When in Rome Arkansas, right?

Choose from a single or double and a choice of side (the sweet potato fries are great) and finish your meal off with their soft serve of the moment!

414 Dorman St., Indianapolis, IN 46202

One Trick Pony

Live from the Fishers Test Kitchen… One Trick Pony. They’re serving up diner-style burgers that can be decked out with an arrangement of toppings. Choose from a single, double, triple or even quadruple (4x4!!!) patties for your burger of choice. OTP also features a monthly special burger — past specials have included Funyuns, queso blanco, gravy, and more as toppings.

Add a side of Whizbang Fries or Three-Way Fries for some additional (delicious) carbs. Make sure to snag a local Sun King beer while you’re there, as this spot is located inside of their Fishers outpost.

9713 District N Dr, Suite #1210, Fishers, IN 46037

Beast

If there’s a place that knows how to whip up a good smash burger, it’s Beast. While they don’t have an official brick and mortar, be on the lookout to sample their awesome burgers at one of their many pop-ups across the city. You can often find them at events across the city, as well as local bars and distilleries. Follow @beastindy on Instagram for details on their next pop-up!
