One Good Thing: The Not-PSL From Amberson Coffee

Welcome to One Good Thing, a weekly(ish) series where I write about one really good thing that I think you should know about.

What’s the One Good Thing? The Persimmon Star Anise Licorice latte (PSL for short) from Amberson Coffee.

What makes it so good? Amberson Coffee is a small coffee shop located in Fletcher Place that’s punching way above their weight class in terms of the quality of the coffee and other coffee-based drinks they’re putting out there. It’s no wonder they were named the best coffee in the state of Indiana by Food & Wine Magazine.

Every Halloween, they offer a very special, very limited drink: their take on St*rbucks’ classic pumpkin spice latte. Theirs, however, is missing one key component: pumpkin. Past year’s renditions have included persimmon, star anise, and licorice.

I am also convinced that Amberson’s coffees taste better because they’re not served in single-use cups. All of their dine-in beverages are served in ceramic or glass coffee cups, and their to-go drinks are served in glass jars, which you can return (so that they can be washed and reused) for a $1 credit off your next drink.

We’ll see if next year’s PSL continues the persimmon trend, or if the Amberson team will switch it up. Either way, their take on the PSL is fantastic, and we’ve got 365 more days to find out what the future holds!

Where can I get it? This latte is only available on October 31. Get it at Amberson Coffee, at the corner of Fletcher and College Avenues.

Amberson Coffee, 401 S College Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46203
